Phillip Island to Leongatha – The Long Way!
Thursday 29 April – Monday 3 May 2027
Get ready for another fantastic Beyond Bitumen adventure as we journey from Phillip Island to Leongatha – the long way!
Our 4-day rally will take us through some of Victoria and southern NSW’s most spectacular country – from rugged coastlines and rolling Gippsland countryside to remote mountain roads, the mighty Snowy River and the beautiful Sapphire Coast.
Expect great roads, dirt tracks, country towns, spectacular scenery, plenty of laughs and a few Beyond Bitumen surprises along the way.
THURSDAY 29 APRIL – PHILLIP ISLAND
We’ll kick things off on Phillip Island with our registration and welcome evening.
Come down early and make a day of it. Explore the dramatic coastline around The Nobbies and Cape Woolamai, visit the famous Grand Prix Circuit or stay on into the evening to see Phillip Island’s famous Little Penguins.
Tonight is all about catching up with old rally friends, welcoming our first-timers and getting ready for the adventure ahead.
DAY 1 – FRIDAY 30 APRIL
Phillip Island → Traralgon → Lakes Entrance
After breakfast on Phillip Island, it’s time to hit the road!
We’ll leave the island behind and make our way through the changing landscapes of Gippsland, stopping in Traralgon for lunch before continuing east.
Our destination tonight is Lakes Entrance, where the vast Gippsland Lakes meet the Southern Ocean. With fishing boats lining the waterfront, Ninety Mile Beach just across the footbridge and beautiful coastal scenery, it’s a great place to finish our first day.
DAY 2 – SATURDAY 1 MAY
Lakes Entrance → McKillops Bridge → Delegate → Merimbula
This promises to be one of the real adventure days of the rally.
Leaving Lakes Entrance, we’ll head into the rugged Snowy River country, travelling through remote mountain landscapes towards the spectacular McKillops Bridge.
Spanning the Snowy River deep within the mountains, McKillops Bridge is one of those places where getting there is every bit as memorable as the destination.
We’ll cross into NSW and stop for lunch in the historic village of Delegate before continuing towards the coast through the beautiful Towamba Valley.
Tonight we arrive in Merimbula, surrounded by beaches, coastal lakes and the magnificent Sapphire Coast.
DAY 3 – SUNDAY 2 MAY
Merimbula → Cann River → Bairnsdale
We’ll start the morning with breakfast in Merimbula, proudly supported by Marine Rescue, before saying goodbye to the Sapphire Coast and heading south towards Victoria.
After crossing the border, we’ll stop for lunch in Cann River, surrounded by the forests and wilderness of East Gippsland.
Then it’s back on the road for our run to Bairnsdale, the gateway to the Gippsland Lakes.
Tonight we’ll come together at the Bairnsdale RSL Club for our final dinner – a chance to celebrate the adventure, the friendships and, most importantly, the difference our fundraising makes.
DAY 4 – MONDAY 3 MAY
Bairnsdale → Leongatha (The Green Corner).
There’s still one more day of rallying to enjoy!
After breakfast in Bairnsdale, we’ll head west and make our way through the beautiful countryside of Gippsland and into the rolling green hills of South Gippsland.
Our final destination is Leongatha, where we’ll cross the finish line and come together for lunch to celebrate another Beyond Bitumen adventure completed.
FOUR DAYS. TWO STATES. ONE FANTASTIC ADVENTURE.
Mountains, forests, rivers, beaches, country towns and some brilliant roads – all shared with a great group of people while raising vital funds and awareness for mental health.
It’s not a race. It’s about the journey, the friendships, the fun and making a difference along the way.

NOTE: Some of these details may change after we have completed our full survey of the roads.
Vehicle Eligibility: There are 3 categories of eligible vehicles: –
- Any well prepared charity event or similar vehicle, is eligible to enter. If your charity car only gets used one week each year, or hasn’t been used for several years, this is a great opportunity to dust it off and get some more fun out of it. All vehicles must be registered and insured.
- Any modern 4WD vehicle (Landcruiser, Patrol, Discovery, HiLux, Navara, Triton, etc.) Some SUVs may also be suitable, but it will depend upon the actual roads that we will take on the event. Please check with Peter for individual cases.
- Any road registered rally car is also eligible to enter, as many of the roads we use have also been used for some of the iconic rounds of the Australian Rally Championships. All vehicles must be registered and insured.
If you don’t have a suitable vehicle but still want to participate, we can rent a “mine spec” vehicle at economical rates from most of the big Hire Companies – Budget, Hertz, etc).
Expenses You will need to cover the following expenses:-
Entry Fee: a $790 Non Refundable Entry Fee is payable to Charity Car Events when you register. This includes two Beyond Bitumen polo shirts per vehicle. Extra shirts will be available for purchase in due time.
Donation and/or Sponsorship: Remember, this is a fundraising event for Beyond Blue. Millions of Australians are living with anxiety or depression. Beyond Blue is working to reduce the impact of anxiety, depression and suicide in the community by raising awareness and understanding, empowering people to seek help, and supporting recovery, management and resilience.
Each car’s minimum fundraising is $1,500. Remember to get your friends and contacts to support your endeavours. All their donations will be credited as part of your $1,500. We encourage you to raise as much money as you can to go towards such a great cause. The highest individual fundraising so far has been $100,000 in one year. Obviously that was an exception, but we do encourage you to keep going once you’ve hit your minimum target. If you are part of a team with more than one car – each car in the team is required to raise at least $1,500.00
NB: It is a requirement that each car entry must setup a Fundraising page – all monies added to your page go direct to Beyond Blue and the amount added to your donation tally. All donations trigger a receipt sent directly to the doner.
If you have trouble setting up your page, please contact Trish here and she will help you.
